The Benefits of Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is by far in my top 3 essential oils of choice. Being that sleep is imperative to health, healing and weight loss I believe that sleep is the most necessary element to achieve optimum health. Studies have shown that lavender increases the time you spend in deep sleep and can also reduce the severity of depression. All essential oils are not created equal which is why I only recommend therapeutic-grade Young Living oils. I use Lavender every day for multiple reasons from helping me sleep to reducing anxiety. Lavender has been used for:

Lavender

PAIN AND BODY ISSUES
o Headaches – including migraines
o For helping sore muscles recover and for healing sprains
o Menstrual cramps
o Put a drop of Lavender oil on a cold sore
o Drop Lavender oil on a cut to clean the wound and kill bacteria (this totally works!)
o Apply 2-3 drops of Lavender oil to a rash to stop the itching, and heal the skin. (this really works for me when I have skin rash flare ups due to detoxing during treatment for Lyme disease)
o Spritz several drops of Lavender oil mixed with distilled water on a sunburn to decrease pain and stop inflammation
o Acne treatment (works way better than most over the counter topical remedies with lots of harmful chemicals)
o Lavender oil has antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties as well as has been shown to reduce the progression of yeast/candida albicans (great for Lyme patients that often have candida albicans overgrowth due to the antibiotic treatments and weakened immune systems).
o Insect bites (stops the itch and inflammation) 
o Rub several drops of Lavender oil into the scalp to help eliminate dandruff.

 

SLEEP AND RELAXATION
o Use as a muscle relaxant either right on the skin or add a few drops to a hot bath to be absorbed by the skin. This is great to help relax children before bed (and adults too!). I personally massage a couple of drops of Lavender on my temples and the soles of my feet. I am able to stay asleep and in a deep sleep usually all night.
o Spritz several drops of Lavender oil mixed with water on your pillow before retiring at night to help you sleep more soundly (I do this nightly)
o Add a drop directly to the back of your neck or inside of your wrists to help with stress reduction and anxiety relief
o Lavender oil is great for those of you that may have problems getting good z’s due to Daylight Savings Time but be with a little help from this oil be prepared to snooze like a hibernating bear.

 

IN THE HOME
o Place a few drops of Lavender oil on a cotton ball and place in your linen closet to scent and repel moths.
o Place a drop of Lavender oil in your sink or water fountain to scent the air and kill bacteria.
o Place a few drops of Lavender oil on a wet cloth and throw into the dryer to freshen your laundry.
o Diffuse Lavender oil into the air to alleviate the symptoms of allergies.
